Alma Dawn Anderson Orrock, born October 31, 1930 in Salina, Utah to Alma Adolph Anderson and Venice Foote Anderson, passed away on May 25, 2020 from causes incident to age. She entered this world on a day that everyone celebrates with an abundance of candy, and made her exit on a day that is celebrated with an abundance of flowers. Sweet timing, Mom!
Dawn married Scott G. Orrock in the Salt Lake Temple on June 8, 1949. They raised their children in Provo, Utah, Pomona, California, and Tuba City and Page, Arizona. They retired to St. George, resided in American Fork, and months before Scott’s passing in 2006, settled in Springville, Utah.
Prior to her passing, all eleven children were able to gather and express to our beautiful mother our gratitude for raising us in homes filled with love, kindness, compassion, and good manners and where we learned the proper way to clean a bathroom and keep a white carpet stain free.
Mom loved people. She made friends in the wards and neighborhoods where she lived as well as grocery store lines where she stood or doctor’s offices where she waited. She loved serving her sisters during the four times she served as Relief Society President.
Mom loved all things outdoors and passed this love of nature on to her children and grandchildren. The smell of petunias brought her to tears, the scent of pine stopped her in her tracks, the approach of an oncoming storm thrilled her, and she could watch trees sway in the wind for hours. And how perfect that her beloved lilacs were blooming outside her window during her last days on earth.
She also passed down to her posterity her love of reading. Mom was a voracious reader of the scriptures, history, biographies, mysteries, and a good, clean romance. Now that she is on the other side (and can remember everything she has read), she could put us all to shame with the knowledge she has acquired through this favorite pastime.
We will miss listening to beautiful music and watching her favorite movies together. We will miss the excitement she expressed when looking over a well-designed floor plan or garden space, receiving any gift she was given, and enjoying rides we took her on.
Our angel mother was taken care of so tenderly and capably by our sister Kathy and her daughter Jackie whose goal was that their mother and grandmother would “want for nothing.” It is impossible to express our overwhelming gratitude to Kathy and Jackie, whose tireless service made that happen.
Dawn is survived by her 11 children: Lana Putman (Parrish), Lynne (Kim) LeBaron, David (Julie) Orrock, Susan (Jon) White, Kathy (Dave) Pruett, Carol (Dan) Stephan, Jim Orrock, Diane (Larry) Justice, Kristen (Shawn) Brittain, Sandra (Byron) Marquez, Steven (Amanda) Orrock. Also surviving are 53 of her 54 grandchildren, and 113 of her 115 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Scott, her sister, Jean Keller, and her infant brother, John Horner.
A family-only graveside service will be held at East Lawn Memorial Hills.

May 28, 2020 at 6:54 pmDear Orrock family,
I wanted to give my love and condolences to each of you. Your mother was indeed a one of a kind woman. So loving, lovely, and kind. I never knew her to have raised her voice while spending many a sleep over at your home. I really only remember Susan, Carol, and Kathy due to my age, and while you lived in Provo, Utah on Cherokee Lane in Indian Hills. Many good and fun memories!
Hoping the love of your mom and the many wonderful memories you have of her will sustain you through this difficult time. I remember when each of my parents passed away, it helped me to think of them being on a ship sailing away from those who loved them waving goodbye to those who loved them waving and welcoming them back home. So many loved ones in leaving AND in coming back home.
Sending my love and prayers.

May 28, 2020 at 7:46 pmMy favorite Aunt Dawn was loved by so many and will be missed by all. Growing up visiting every summer was a childhood highlight of mine. Uncle Scott and Aunt Dawn were the perfect hosts and our visits never seemed long enough. Aunt Dawn was beautiful, always smiling, laughing and never seeming ruffled no matter what us kids were up to — life around her was just fun all the time. She had the gift of making you feel important whenever you were in her presence. She was a great example of a kind and loving mother. I am so grateful to have had her in my life as a young impressionable child. I am grateful for the memories and example for good she has been to me. I am so happy for her to be once again reunited with the love of her life. What a beautiful reunion that must have been:)
May we all cling to the wonderful memories we have and find comfort in the love we share for our dear sweet Dawn.

June 12, 2020 at 6:35 pmThank you Patty for sharing your memories and thoughts about Mom. It makes me appreciate our parents for making the effort to visit each other’s families. We loved visiting our “California cool” cousins. I think the more kids around, the happier Mom was. Of course, I still think of your Mom smiling and laughing as well. Glad we can still visit with her. And yes, we are glad Mom and Dad are reunited. It makes the bitter – sweet. Love you and your family, Susan

May 31, 2020 at 8:38 pmHi all you beautiful Orrock People. I love you. I SO much enjoyed the wonderful video of your mother’s precious life. I saw SO many things I remember about her and love about her. I think she taught me to stop and smell the roses, which I always do, and now I will think of her when I do. I was just a fleeting moment in your lives, but you were so much more to me. Your’s was the home where the Holy Ghost was there, Family Home Evening was there, structure, teaching and love. I had wonderful parents who loved me, but I learned about an LDS home from your example. I worked alongside of you making the concrete pebbled stepping stones in the front yard, and sat through an FHE or two. I wanted to grow up and have a home just like you. I can feel the comfort and safety I had spending the night with Lana and looking up and out her window and knowing I was in a safe and happy environment. So much the more important to me because I’ve watched you all grow up and make EXACTLY the family Dawn would have wanted. You matter to me. I love you MOM, I always will. God be with you, and know for sure you had the best mom ever! Diona

June 12, 2020 at 6:46 pmDiona, You must know you were more than a fleeting moment in our lives. I still remember specific conversations we had. However, I had forgotten that you were part of the concrete pebbled stepping stones project. Time has rendered you a selective memory. Some of us kids don’t remember the making of those stones with as fond of memory as you might. We’ll just leave it at that. We all love you Diona, and would love to reminisce with you more about those good old days. Someday?
Love, Lana’s siblings (Susan)
