Allen Harding Jensen September 10, 1940 - May 11, 2023

Allen Harding Jensen passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023. He was born September 10, 1940, in Spanish Fork, UT, to Marvin Harding Jensen and Fayone Brimhall.

Allen grew up in Spanish Fork. He married Helen Allen on August 16, 1962 in the Manti LDS Temple. They have 5 children: Christine Farnsworth (Russell), Russell Allen Jensen (Ellen), Suzy Oviatt, Nanette Gale (Troy), and Joey Carter (Scott). They have 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Allen had a love for gardening, growing the most amazing vegetable gardens every summer. His green thumb caused virtually everything he planted to grow out of control, and he had a special knack for hard-to-grow plants and flowers. Cacti and African Violets often covered the kitchen table. Allen took pride in his landscaping, continuously changing and adding to his yard. His other talents include art and crafts. He especially loved painting beautiful landscapes and scenery and making pottery, which he generously shared with his family.

Allen loved serving the Lord. He was called to many positions in the LDS church throughout his life and served in nearly every capacity possible in a bishopric, including Bishop. He was involved with scouting for many years, and enjoyed camping with and teaching the boys how to survive in the wild.

Allen taught 6th grade for 34 years at Provost Elementary in Provo, UT. At the same time, he worked as a radiology technician, often taking calls during the night and then teaching the next day. After retiring from teaching 6th grade, he taught at BYU for 9 years, teaching students who were majoring in elementary education how to teach science.

In his retirement years, Allen enjoyed 4-wheeling and camping trips with Helen and a group of their friends. He was a fighter, overcoming many illnesses and injuries over the last several years.

Helen and family. So very sorry to hear of Allen’s passing. He was always to kindest person, even in his youth. I got to know him in Thistle as his Uncle ran the Depot cafe. And, his mom was the most amazing cook there. May God bless you all with love and comfort at this hard time.

Mr. Jensen was my mom’s coworker at provost. He noticed I could read well and let me borrow books that were a higher level. I loved the challenge and became a book worm. I even majored in English. Mr Jensen told us about the circus when it came to Spanish fork. Thank you for your friendship and believing in me.

I was thinking about people who made a difference in my life, and I decided to look up Mr. Jensen, only to find this. I’d like to have been able to tell him how he made me feel special and smart and welcomed when I was a new student at Provost in 6th grade. I was a little shy, and a lot unsure. But he brought out the best in me. He encouraged my love for reading, and to this day one of my favorite books was a book he recommended to me “The Wolves of Willoughby Chase”. I am so sorry to his family for his loss, and I am sure it is still felt as strongly today.
