Adele Youd September 1, 1959 - March 24, 2020

Adele Youd, 60, of Spanish Fork, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, after a valiant battle with several illnesses. Adele was a beloved sister, aunt, teacher, and friend.

Adele was born September 1, 1959, to Leon E. and Margery Hansen Youd. She was the second of five children. She also stepped in as guardian extraordinaire for her two youngest sisters and as family matriarch after the death of their parents. Adele’s joys in life were her nieces and nephews. She looked forward to “Sunday Night Snack” when all of our family would gather together for great conversation, great dessert, and great memories.

Beyond her family, Adele’s great love was the elementary school students she taught for 35 years. Adele graduated from Brigham Young University in 1983 and began her teaching career at Edgemont Elementary School in Provo School District. She later moved to Canyon Crest Elementary where she taught 4th grade until she became a facilitator and intern mentor. Adele retired from education in 2017.

Adele was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved her Savior and served valiantly in Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society callings. She always said some of her best years were with her Young Women.

Adele loved books and faithfully collected Newbery and Caldecott award winners every year. She also had a penchant for cute shoes and brightly-colored clothes. An avid shopper, Adele maintained her elegant style to the very end. She loved fine perfume and a new tube of mascara.

There wasn’t much that would keep Adele home. She loved to travel and never turned down a quick trip to Salt Lake. Her favorite destination was Disney. Disneyland or Disney World, it didn’t matter; Adele was in. She also made amazing memories traveling to Europe with her sisters and friends.

Adele is survived by three sisters and one brother: Sharon Youd Miya, Calvin (Bertha) Youd, Mary Kathryn (Allen) Hall, and Deon Youd, all of Spanish Fork. She had 13 nieces and nephews.

“In the end,” Adele always quoted, “only kindness matters.” That’s what she said. That’s what she believed. That’s how she lived. The world never knew such kindness as the kindness of Adele Youd.

Due to concerns with Covid-19, services for Adele will be limited at this time. Family and close friends can visit with the family at Walker Mortuary in Spanish Fork from 10:30 am until noon on Friday, March 27, 2020; however, we ask that all wishing to attend respect social distancing recommendations. Adele’s legacy will live on for generations because of all the students she taught, the teachers she taught with and mentored, the youth and not so young that she served in the church, and her nieces and nephews that received her abundant love.

I’m so sorry for your loss, Adele is irreplaceable. I have so many fond memories of Adele.
I remember one time talking about playing blackjack and she said, “I could never do it, it would be like betting a shoe and I love shoes way too much!”
Another year I was teaching a class with kids that struggled with behavioral issues, one of my students included in her class, she loved him and he knew it, in return he loved her. She saw abilities, not disabilities. We had planned a field trip to go swimming at PHS with Adele’s class. I always swam with the kids, so this student asked if Miss Youd would be swimming, I smiled and said, “Miss Youd is too perfect to get wet,” he laughed and agreed. She was always perfectly put together!
I know she will be busy teaching and loving in heaven!

Calvin, Bertha, and family. Dick and I want to send our condolences to you and your family. We were so sad when Greg called us on Wednesday evening to tell us of her passing. We were not aware that she had been ill. We loved Adele. I had the opportunity to work with her when she was at Canyon Crest Elementary. She was always so friendly and kind. I observed her at times interacting with the children and I could tell she had great love for those children. Of course, your family befriended our family shortly after we moved to Spanish Fork and our boys were involved in baseball. Your family were great examples to our kids and we thank you for your continued love and support.
Even though Adele will truly be missed, we know that she must surely be relieved of her mortal pain. What a great reunion it must have been to see her mother and father for the first time in so many years. What a great daughter and sister she has been, caring for each of you in place of your parents. We send our deepest sympathy and love to each of you and we pray that you may feel the comfort of our Savior at this time. We love all of you and hope that we will be able to participate in the celebration you will have at a later date. Richard and Clyda Lindsay

She was my teacher for 4th and 5th grade. I’ll never forget her. She was always so kind and had a lasting impact on my life. I often tell my kids about the “amazing Miss Youd- who would take her students for a milkshake if they got 10 100% on their spelling tests.” It was the coolest thing to a 4th and 5th grader! I send my love to all who knew her.

Adele had a wonderful, kind, gracious smile and hi when ever we saw her out and about. She lived a tremendous “Christ-like” life. We know she touched and influenced so many lives in a lot of different positive ways. We know she is being surrounded by many with love and hugs right now. May our Heavenly Father’s blessings be with you.

Adele Youd was an amazing teacher and friend! She was my 4th grade teacher at Canyon Crest Elementary. She stands out as one of my favorite teachers of all time! Here is how she did it… I was placed in her class during the first week of school. They had to add a new teacher that year because the class sizes were too big. I was pretty sad at first, not knowing anything about this “new teacher”. She lovingly pulled me aside and told me that she was glad I was in her class and that we were going to have a great year. How right she was! What I remember most from Miss Youd is TIMES TABLES! She would pass out a time drill page of 100 multiplication problems and say, “Ready, set, go!” We would do our best to complete the test. Here is the neatest part… She was taking the test too! If we could finish the test, getting all of the problems correct before she finished, then she would take us to Ripples during lunch and get us a milkshake. This challenge really pushed me to learn my times tables. I finally did it one day and during lunch she took me and another student to Ripples and bought us chocolate banana milkshakes! I must say that every time I pass Ripples or multiply, I think about Miss Youd. Guess what? Miss Youd along with many wonderful teachers, inspired me to become a teacher. Here is the cool part, after finishing BYU, I got to teach 5th and 6th grades at Canyon Crest Elementary! So, not only was Miss Youd my 4th grade teacher, but she was also my friend and fellow faculty member. She was always so kind to me and I appreciate all that she taught me as a student and as a teacher. I loved her beautiful manicured nails and her great taste in shoes! She will always hold a special place in my heart.

    Love you forever Miss Youd!

I was in intern at Canyon Crest in 1997 and Adele was my mentor teacher. I loved her quick wit! My favorite thing she’d said to the kids was when they had not told her the truth she called it a “fibber dibber.” I loved how she showed great compassion like that even in moments that she provided correction and discipline. She was outstanding!

    Dear Family of Adele,
I just learned that my dear friend and fellow teacher passed away. My family has been living overseas with the military until this year and I was hoping to see her this summer in a trip we have planned to Utah. I am so sorry that she is no longer with us. I taught 4th grade with Adele at Canyon Crest in 2000-2002 and I have so many fond memories of her. She was a light and a strength and I learned so much from her. She helped me through my first year of teaching and then continued to be a good friend–giving me advice about my relationships and about life in general. She was so wise and approachable and loving. There are certain people who are there in our lives at critical times and help us make important choices that impact our whole lives, and Adele was one of those people for me. I remember one time when I was dating the wrong person, Adele helped me to recognize this with her insightful questions. This is just one example of how your sister/aunt/cousin influenced my life for the better. I will remember and revere her always.
