Vickie Hymas Hathaway was born on January 7th, 1942, in Burley, Idaho to Lavern Charles Hymas and Hazel Marie Linzy. Vickie flew to the bosom of Jesus on October 13th – 2021. She resided in Spanish Fork, UT at the time of her departure, with her husband, Larry Hathaway.
Vickie was the 2nd eldest of Vern and Hazel’s children. Jaunee Baird (Vaughn), Cheri Peavy (Clint), Steve Hymas (Tannie), Monica Downs (Gary), and Lona Hymas Smith (Dennis). She grew up on the Great Snake River in Burley, Idaho, where she and all of her siblings learned how to swim. They had the greatest swimming coach ever… their father, Vern! The river became a deep part of each one of them.
Vickie attended Heyburn Elementary School and later attended Minico High School and graduated from Burley High School in 1959. She met Thomas Gene Ward from Orem, UT while attending cosmetology school in Utah. Tom and Vickie married November 3rd, 1961. Vickie completed an apprenticeship program and obtained her cosmetology license after marriage. She worked as an accomplished hair stylist for many years.
Tom and Vickie had 3 children, Shawn Ward (Bobbi), Krikit Butcher (Bill), Tiffany Tease (Michael). Tom and Vickie divorced after 16 years. She has 5 grandchildren: Sally Jo Butcher, Levi Eugene Cloward (Bill and Krikit), Madison Nickelle Tease, Seth Michael Tease, and Callihan Tease (Michael and Tiffany). Gramma Girl or GG (Vickie) was adored by all of them.
Vickie married again in the early 80s to Lamonte Wilson from Midway, UT. Monte has one daughter, Jody Wilson. Monte and Vickie divorced.
Vickie found love later in life after spending many years alone. Larry Hathaway would be her devoted love to the end. Larry and Vickie married on April 7th, 2010, and resided in Spanish Fork, Utah. They had a common love for rocks and silversmithing and were able to work together side by side. Owning a rock and jewelry shop and participating in many rock shows each year. Not only did they love each other, they were best friends and the perfect team in everything they did.
Vickie was a Jack-of-all-Trades and good at anything she put her hands to. She was a master artist, but never saw the talent in herself. Her hobbies to name a few included: reading, painting, silversmithing, carving, beadwork, sewing, and cooking. She was also a pianist and guitarist. She had an enthusiasm for learning and trying new things, and she always did it well. She loved nature, animals, solitude, horseback riding, cross country skiing, swimming and biking. But most of all she loved spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
Vickie was a quiet spirit. She was humble and wise and didn’t try to draw attention to herself; but with her beauty she was unsuccessful. Her spirit was even more beautiful. She was non-judgmental, kind, and compassionate. A true friend that you could share your deepest secrets with no shame. Vickie was so much fun to be with! She loved God and believed He loved her, rested in it.
Vickie was preceded by LaVern Charles Hymas, Hazel Marie Hymas, Steve Hymas, Lona Linzy Hymas, Thomas Gene Ward, and Levi Eugene Cloward.
Thank you LORD, for blessing us with her life. Until we meet again. We love you and will miss you dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, Utah 84660. An open house will be held at 12:00 p.m. prior to the service.
