Services will be live-streamed beginning approximately 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at the following link: https://youtu.be/rzraDjXYG24

Nadine Hansen Staheli passed away peacefully, of causes incident to age, on Friday, September 3, 2021. She was 98 years young. Nadine was born in Spanish Fork, Utah, on August 21, 1923, the third of four daughters of Leonard Goodman Hansen and Margaret Griffith Hansen.

On May 6, 1943, she married her sweetheart and eternal companion, Gerald Douglass Staheli, of Payson, Utah, who was serving in the U.S. Navy at the time. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 22, 1944.

Nadine is preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Bernice Dame, Lorna Koyle, and Joy Christmas; her husband, Gerald; and a son, Kent. She is survived by sons: Glen (Marilyn) Staheli of Mount Vernon, Washington; and Don (Cyndy) Staheli of Bountiful, Utah; a daughter, Sheryl (Steve) Peterson of Mt. Pleasant, Utah; daughter-in-law, Sai Staheli of Udon Thani, Thailand; 15 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and many wonderful extended family members, all of whom were dear to her.

Nadine was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held callings in all of the auxiliary organizations of the Church. She and Gerald were stalwart and contributing members of each ward or branch in which they lived. She served as ward Relief Society president four times, stake Young Women president, and as  a counselor in a stake Relief Society presidency. She was an ordinance worker in the Provo Utah Temple and served in the Provo Missionary Training Center; and, as a hospice volunteer. Nadine and Gerald handed down to their posterity the great legacy of faith in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ and service to those in need, which had been lived by previous generations.

Nadine was a child of the Great Depression and a young adult during World War II. These experiences gave her a special appreciation for the goodness of life and for the freedoms she enjoyed as a United States citizen. She was a devoted wife to her husband, who served as a Naval officer and willingly followed him to various duty assignments throughout the United States. Nadine and Gerald loved to travel and visited numerous countries throughout the world. They lived in Iran in the days of the Shah and loved the culture of that country.

Nadine was a talented piano player. She played by ear and loved the classic music of her era. In the later years of her life, she teamed up with Gordon Warner, her childhood friend, as they played piano and harmonica duets, much to the delight of senior citizen groups throughout Utah County. She and Gordon had been friends since they were four years old, and he remained a wonderful friend during the later years of her life.

Reading was Nadine’s favorite pastime. At almost any hour of the day, she could be found with book in hand enjoying tales of exciting people, times, and places. She also greatly enjoyed her dear friends, many of whom she had known since her youth. Meeting with the “Chat & Chew Club” was one of her favorite activities. Nadine was always available with a listening ear and a kind response.

Nadine was a widow for 43 years. She has now rejoined her dear companion, Gerald, and all those loved ones and friends who departed this life before her. She will be missed by those left behind.

The family is most grateful for those who provided Nadine with such excellent care and attention, including the wonderful staff at Legacy House of Spanish Fork, the nurses of Brio/A+ Hospice, family members who were so attentive, and faithful Gordon, whose frequent visits and car rides gave her much joy. Thanks to all from the bottom of our hearts.

I have had the opportunity to know Nadine my entire life. She was such a wonderful person and like another grandma to me. What joy it was to have her in my ward almost all of my life even when my wife and I were married and in our new home for a few years to see her walk in to church telling me she had just bought a house in our ward. So glad that she is now with her husband she will be missed.

WE LOVE NADINE!!! We had the privilege of being Nadine’s neighbors and fellow Ward members in Spanish Fork. She is the the ultimate example of kindness, friendship, love, faith and being faithful, good humor and dignity. The dictionary defines “Lady” by saying: “See Nadine Staheli”. She dressed in slacks and pearls even when we were having a Ward clean-up day! Amazing woman!!! We loved her goodness to our young children – she gave them gifts to “thank them” for simple things they did. One treasure our daughter has is a small nativity set Nadine gave her after she had sung a solo in church at Christmastime. Nadine had asked her to sing and then accompanied her on the piano. That simple gift has been displayed for the past 25 years in our home and now our daughter’s home. What a loving memory we have of Nadine. Heaven has gained a magnificent angel! Our lives are enriched by having Nadine as a friend!!!
