Daryn Cleveland Moody, age 62, of Woodland Hills, Utah, passed away on August 29,2021, in the UtahValley Specialty Hospital, after a month-long battle with COVID-19.
Daryn was born January 29, 1959, to Harold J. Moody and Elaine (Cleveland) Moody at the Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. He was the youngest of four children and was dearly loved by his parents and older brother and sisters. He spent the largest part of his childhood in San José, California, where he enjoyed playing on the beach, going camping and fishing with his family, hiking, and climbing trees.
After graduating from high school, Daryn served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to London, England. Upon returning home and while attending Brigham Young University, he met the love of his life and married Coleen Jacobson on January9, 1980. Together they had six children: Jacob, Rachel, Joshua, Rebecca, Justin, and Alicea.
After college at BYU, Daryn completed dental school at the University of Missouri, Kansas City. He moved back to Utah, where he practiced dentistry in Provo, Utah, for the past 32 years. He had a passion for his work and excelled at what he did. He loved helping to make his dental office a place where patient and co-worker alike could feel cared for and loved, while having a good joke or a laugh. His co-workers and patients were like a second family to him, and he loved them all.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Daryn served in many capacities throughout his life, including that of Scout Master, Young Men’s Leader, Elder’s Quorum President, High Councilor, and Bishop. His favorite church opportunities were being able to work with and serve the youth, where he tried to help instill in them a love of the Lord and how to set goals for achieving their desires and dreams.
Daryn loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, and mountain biking. Gardening was another of his favorite pastimes and he took great pride in maintaining his large greenhouse and small orchard, at home. He loved sports and was an avid BYU and Utah Jazz fan and played early morning basketball multiple times a week for decades. Daryn was also an excellent cook and loved to prepare dishes of all sorts for his family. He loved music, was a talented singer and enjoyed participating in various choirs. He was known for his sense of humor and would never hesitate to give a pun or a ‘Dad joke’.
Most of all,Daryn loved his family. His wife, his children, and his grandchildren were his greatest sources of joy and happiness in his life. He went out of his way to create special memories and experiences with his family members.
Daryn is survived by his wife; and four of his children: Jacob (Joanna)Moody , Joshua (Michelle) Moody, Justin (Cami) Moody, and Alicea (Anthony) Hernandez; and two sisters Karleen Tutton, Michelle Wilding; and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dustin Moody; and his two daughters,Rachel and Rebecca.

September 2, 2021 at 3:24 pmOur hearts are so heavy for you all…. Especially Coleen. And our hearts are full of gratitude for having known and loved Daryn as our neighbor, Bishop, and friend. He had such a steady, firm faith in the Lord, and a love of life and people. Our boys were especially blessed by his love and influence. Even as adults some would drive a great distance for dental work just to see him and feel his love.
We will continue to pray for your peace and comfort. God bless you all.

September 14, 2021 at 10:34 pmI am a patient who is now very sad. What a loss to his family and to me as a patient. I loved his quirkiness and he always allowed me to be myself, too. I know that knowledge of the plan of salvation heals us, but separation is still hard. May the family feel the comfort of the Savior’s great love. I will greatly miss Dr Moody.

He has the ability to put me at ease while going through difficult dental procedures. In all honesty any dental procedure is a difficult one for me. But I felt I could do it with his knowledge, caring, expertise, and calmness.

November 23, 2021 at 7:05 pmHe was my dentist for 20 years. I stayed with him through insurance changes, a move to a further city, etc. I enjoyed chatting with him about church callings and his family, and his quality dental work. I’m so sorry about your loss. I just learned about this last week, when the dentist cancelled my appointment with him.
