William Charles Wilson returned to his Heavenly Father on August 17, 2021. He was the third of six children. Charles was born March 14, 1928, to George Washington Wilson and Beulah Mae Tetter Wilson, in Lexington, North Carolina.
On December 20, 1959, he married Hilda Mae Shoaf. They joined The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints, December 23, 1966, and were later sealed with their four young daughters, December 14, 1972, in the Salt Lake City Utah Temple.
We feel comfort in knowing his eternal companion, Hilda, welcomed him into heaven. Other family members who preceded him in death are his parents; two brothers, Herbert and Don; and two sisters, Louise Fisher and Sarah Rodgers.
Honorably discharged as an U.S. Army staff sergeant, Charles served in action in the Korean War as a tank commander in
the Third Army, 32nd Tank Company. Developing a strong work ethnic at an early age, he was a truck driver, ore and coal miner, car body mechanic, and furniture worker. He retired in 1990, and served as a school crossing guard, cultivating memories with the children. As a young man he enjoyed drag racing. As he got older, he filled that love by watching stock-car racing. He enjoyed camping and eating southern BBQ.
He moved his family from North Carolina to Spanish Fork, Utah, in September 1976, where four more daughters were born under the covenant.
He is a High Priest in the LDS Church. He left a legacy of unconditional love to his surviving 8 daughters: Lisa (Jim) Waite of Bakersfield, CA; Gina (Kent) Gillmore of Surprise, AZ; Rita (Marlan) Brown of Spanish Fork; UT; Wanda Thompson of Norwalk, CT; Charmae Christensen of Spanish Fork, UT; Heather Safsten of Surprise, AZ; Rachel (Devin) Yeates of Pleasant Hill, CA; Robin Wilson of Spanish Fork, UT. Also, 30 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren will miss him. A brother, Bill (Nancy) Wilson of Lexington, also survives him.
The memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at Walker Funeral Home, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, UT, on August 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at Walker Funeral Home on Friday evening, August 20, 2021, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. with a second viewing the next morning, from 10:00- 1045 a.m. prior to memorial service. Burial will be at Mapleton Cemetery following the memorial service. American Legion #68 of Spanish Fork will serve Charles with full military honors at the graveside.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and love to all who helped in any way during this difficult time. We are so grateful to all the staff at the Bennion Veterans home who cared for him with kindness and love.
