Janice Ann (Mohler) Facilla entered eternal rest on June 7, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents: John E. Mohler and Florence M. (Moore) Mohler. She is survived by her two sisters Margaret Dillender and Doris E. Mohler, three nieces, two nephews, and twenty-four grandnieces and grandnephews. Jan was born in Upland, CA on March 7, 1946. She contracted polio when very young and had numerous operations to help her walk. The physical effects remained with her throughout her life.
Janice was a good student. She graduated from Copiague High School in Copiague, New York. Although she later took some college courses, she went right into the workforce after graduation, working various jobs including several years with Grumman Aerospace Corporation. As a young adult she said one of her favorite jobs was working at the Babylon library one summer vacation.
She was an honest and loyal person. With her caring and friendly nature, Janice made friends both at school and work, remaining in contact with many of them until her death.
Janice was a very determined individual; a fighter all her life which helped her to overcome many obstacles. She was an example of how far hard work can take you toward accomplishing your goals despite challenges.
Jan moved to Utah where she worked a variety of jobs before settling into her 30-year career working for the State of Utah Employment Agency. Jan loved her job. She was an instructor of several workshops, designed to help clients develop and improve job skills to help them find new employment. She said it was worth all the extra effort she put into her classes and very rewarding to see lives turn around.
She always went the extra mile to help others, whether at work, or in her personal life supporting family and friends. Although she had no children, she was always very supportive of her nieces and nephews, helping in any way she possibly could.
She was praised by many for her professionalism and strong work ethic. She had a skill for writing, often writing ads for the agency, researching and developing workshop curriculum, and compiling information for job fairs.
Janice met her husband while visiting a friend. Although they later divorced, they remained friends for many years.
By those who knew her best she will be remembered for her great love of cats, Elvis, and music from the 50’s and 60’s. She LOVED to sing!
Janice enjoyed travel and vacations, often going on cruises, visiting Hawaii, Epcot, family, and friends. She enjoyed watching old classic films, reading, and word search puzzles.
Jan made generous yearly contributions to organizations and causes in which she strongly believed including Veterans, animals, and the environment. Some of her favorites were The Ocean Conservancy, National World War II Museum, and the Humane Society of Utah.
The family wishes to thank ALL her gentle and dedicated caregivers, nurses, and therapists who gave their best so she could stay in her home. A very special thanks to Dr. Margaret Lunt, Janice’s long-time physician and treasured friend, who always gave kind, loving, and compassionate care.
There will be no funeral service at this time. A memorial service is planned for a future date.
