David Alan Leffler LIVESTREAM

Dave Leffler was surrounded by loved ones as he peacefully passed away on April 24, 2023 in Utah Valley Hospital at the age of 68. He is reunited with his wife and sweetheart, Holly Lee Foutz Leffler.

David Alan Leffler was born to Cora and Murray Leffler in Las Vegas, Nevada on September 4, 1954. His family moved to California when he was just a boy and lived in Bakersfield and surrounding areas. Dave was a quiet young man with a tender heart. He proudly says he was a momma’s boy!

He and his mother moved back to Las Vegas when he was in his early twenties. Trying to make new friends after a few months in a new city, he joined the local volleyball league. There he met a pretty young woman on his very first practice. Her story is, he was new and she wanted him to feel welcome. His story is the moment he walked into the gym a girl marched up to him and said, “You’re going to be on my team. Let’s go.” They played volleyball in multiple leagues together until 1989 until Dave fell during a game and severely injured himself.

Dave and Holly were just friends at first and even discovered they actually lived on the same street. He would come over to her house just to hang out and eventually started to talk to her dad about the Mormon church. Only a few weeks later he and his mom were baptized. During this time, he and Holly realized their friendship was more than that and started dating. A few months later they were engaged. Dave and Holly were married in the St. George Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on June 25, 1976.

Their daughter, Amy, was born the following spring and she was his pride and joy. Shortly after her birth, they moved to Utah only to move to Wyoming two years after that where he started his first career in mining. He worked at a coal mine, but was laid off after 7 years. He and Holly decided it was time to go “home” to Vegas where Dave found a job at a gold mine just across the Nevada/California State border.

7 more years mining took a toll on Dave and after the mine shut down because they had no more gold to mine, he decided it was best to find the age-old desk job. He, his wife, and daughter moved to Utah again where he found a job at a title company. There he was trained and came home happy almost every day because he didn’t have to shovel coal or mine gold anymore.

His title job opened up doors to other avenues that led him to work for the Utah County Recorder office and then onto his most favorite job ever as a Cadastral Mapper for Utah County. He worked hard and he loved helping the general public (most of the time) with questions and problems they had. His most prized possession from his second career is most definitely the relationships he made with his coworkers and peers.

Dave loved his wife and was heartbroken when she passed 4 ½ years ago after taking care of her through her poor health. He loved being called grandpa by his three grandsons and still would call his adult daughter by her nickname, Hairball, every time they talked on the phone.

Dave loved playing on his guitars, held a gun handler’s permit with pride and loved drinking Coke! Throughout his life he took up airbrushing, fly tying for fishing, egg carving, whittling, lock picking, collecting baseball caps, learning magic tricks and anything that involved being creative.

He is survived by his daughter, Amy Williams, her husband Ian Williams and their three sons, Liam, Owen and Slone.

We are so sorry to hear about David. We lost touch so long ago but he was thought of. His mother, Cora, and my mother, Marian, were sisters. Prayers to his family.
