John McKay Bryan March 26, 1959 - January 29, 2023

John McKay Bryan passed away peacefully at his home on January 29th, 2023 at the age of 63.   John was a compassionate and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was greeted on the other side by his wife, parents, brothers, sisters, and other family with open arms.

John was born March 26, 1959 to Aron Elmo and Maggie June Whitehouse Bryan in Tooele, Utah, the youngest of 5 children.  Growing up on the farm was all John could ask for as a young child and treasured those memories before the family moved to Provo.  John grew up riding motorcycles, working at the local gas station at an early age, and graduated from Provo High School.

John met Teri Richman after high school and the two were married in 1981.  They built a life and a home together over 25 years together.  In that time, they had 4 children: Jason, Steven, Tyler, and eventually got their girl, Jennifer.  They were sealed together as a family in the temple.   Aside from his Savior, Jesus Christ, there was no one he loved more in the whole world than his family and did everything he could to provide for them.  He was also a dedicated son, who spent countless hours helping and caring for his mom through her later years.

John was a strong, hard-working man.  John was a Master Technician in RV Service and took incredible pride in his work, his customer service, and his honesty.  His 35 year career started working with his brother at Miller’s Trailers in Spanish Fork.  Eventually John and Teri owned their own business running the whole service department there.  He later continued as the RV Service Manager at Barber Brothers and Ardel Brown.  A life of literal back-breaking work, forced John to take early retirement by his mid 50’s.

John loved music, especially classic rock.  His air guitar and air piano were simply unmatched.  Music was rooted in John’s soul.  He also loved watching BYU and professional sports, NASCAR, classic movies, Star Trek, Harry Potter, and just about everything Disney.  Throughout his life, John enjoyed skiing, spending time riding 4 wheelers at the sand dunes with his brother and going on family trips (esp. to Disneyland).  Most of all, he loved spending time at the family cabin in Scofield.  Built with his father’s own hands, this was John’s happy place.  For many years, it was a lot of fun and work, but a pure labor of love.

After his and Teri’s divorce, John met and married Pamela Marks in 2009 and started a new chapter in both their lives.  They were later sealed in the temple for time and eternity.  They enjoyed learning to scuba dive together, joint family gatherings, and watching grandchildren grow…some of the most joyful times in his life.  John continued to ‘tinker’ through his retirement, restoring, cleaning and repairing anything that needed it.  John enjoyed his family traditions, gathering everyone together for holidays, superbowls, and especially fall pumpkin carving.

John battled through much in his life, suffering and recovering through addiction, loss of family, and many physical ailments (chronic back pain, stroke, cancer, and kidney failure just to name a few).  John’s final years were particularly not easy ones.  The family would like to especially thank the staff at the Davita Care Center.    Though John was tested throughout his life in many ways, his perseverance and unwavering faith will forever be an example to all of us of what it truly means to “endure to the end”.

John is survived by a brother, Jed Bryan; his son Jason John and Breeann Bryan of West Jordan UT; his son Steven McKay Bryan and Nicole Long of Salem UT; his son Tyler Kay and Sully Bryan of Fresno CA; and Daughter Jennifer Marie and Jarom Durfey of Salem UT.  John had 10 grandchildren: Daphne Bryan, Paisley Bryan, Jesse Bryan, Kingston Bryan, Oliver Bryan, Arlo Bryan, Vincent Bryan, Ryker Durfey, Everlie Durfey, and Gunner Durfey

John is preceded in death by his parents; step father Chester Davis; brother William “Win” Bryan; brother Kim Bryan; sister Dian Zentner; and wife Pamela Bryan.
