Jerry W Newitt March 20, 1953 - December 16, 2022

A good son, great husband, and fun-loving dad and grandpa, Jerry W Newitt, passed away in the morning of December 16, 2022.  He was born in Spanish Fork, Utah, March 20, 1953, to Cliff Tadd Newitt and Beth Whittaker Newitt.  Jerry grew up and attended schools in Spanish Fork, graduating Spanish Fork High School.

Jerry served a two-year mission in the Alabama-Florida area for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Upon his return, he married Sandra Hallam in the Manti Utah Temple, October 10, 1974. They have two children: Brock and Bethany.

Jerry spent 30 years working at Trojan Explosives.  After the plant closed, he became his own boss, owning and operating Newitt’s Lawn and Maintenance landscaping business for 15 years.  When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed painting and woodworking, but his true passion was golf. On most Saturdays and Tuesdays you could find him at Gladstan Golf Course. He liked Atlanta Braves baseball, as well as BYU sports. He also enjoyed hunting, until he broke his hip.  Additionally, he was a history buff and was particularly interested in World War II.  He loved going on family vacations or any outing and activity with them.  He enjoyed traveling the world, and especially loved the 15 cruises he went on with his wife, along with their good friends, Curtis and Cathy Burton.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully over the years in various callings, with steadfastness and energy.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Sandra, and his children, Brock J. Newitt, and Bethany Bradley, as well as five grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Clea (Frank) Headman, Cherie (Gary) Roylance, Becky (Mike) Wilson; and by his best friend, Richard Brunson.  He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Allen, and a sister, Mabel.

The Newitt family would like to say thank you to the Ashford Assisted Living & Memory Care staff, and Valeo Home Health & Hospice, for their kind, loving care for our husband, father, and grandfather.

Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 22, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Church on 1138 East 100 South, Payson, Utah.  There will be a visitation, also Thursday morning at the church, where family and friends may gather from 9:30 a.m.- 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral.  Interment will be at Spanish Fork City Cemetery.

I met Jerry in grade school at Thurber. Always smiling, always fun, always kind. His life is a fine example of being the way the Higher Power encouraged. I believe he is with the angels.

It’s hard to think of a world without Jerry. He was a kind, unassuming, selfless friend, always smiling, always fun to be around. He just made life better. He was a fierce competitor, especially in golf, but never mean spirited. He made you laugh whether you won or lost. I sure hope there are golf courses in heaven or I fear Jerry will head south!
I love you brother and I’ll always smile when I think of you (which will be often) Rest in peace dear friend.

Jerry was a good friend since we met in grade school. Our love of sports brought us together for many years of tennis, golf, softball, and especially basketball. Jerry was a natural and gifted athlete. His easygoing happy attitude always made it a pleasure to be in his company.
He helped me get a job working with him summers on the. Spanish Fork Sewer/Water department. We always had great conversations about anything that was going on around us and in our lives. We had a great year on the Searle Trucking city league b-ball team before I moved to Southern California. I loved renewing our friendship on the golf course and during the alumni b-ball holiday tournaments. I never remember an argument or disagreement with Jerry- he was a genuinely happy guy!
Tears came when I learned of his illness and again when he passed. Jerry will always be a good friend and beloved member of the SFHS class of ‘71. Because of Jesus Christ’s atonement and resurrection, I have confidence we’ll be together again. What a good guy Jerry Newitt was and will continue to be! RIP
