Adem Andrew Mattinson of Herriman, Utah passed on December 07, 2022 at the University of Utah hospital surrounded by loved ones. Adem was facing the biggest fight of his life and lost it to liver disease. He was the glue within his family and was the one his brothers all called. He kept us connected. YOU WILL BE MISSED, BROTHER!
Adem was born on December 12, 1975, to Larry and Kathryn (Memmott) Mattinson in Payson, Utah. Adem was the youngest of six kids; Stephanie (deceased), Bret, Scott Bodie, Jodie, and Shad Mattinson.
Adem graduated Spanish Fork High school in 1994. Being raised in the small town of Spanish Fork, Adem was known for being one of the toughest kids on the block. Adem took this toughness to the football field where he excelled, he was all-region and all-state. Adem received many offers to play college football, but instead chose to stay close to home and raise his child Tanner Mattinson. A decision he never regretted.
Adem loved to hunt and fish, I know some of his best memories was up on the skyline hunting deer or elk with his kids, his dad and brothers. Adem was a pretty good shot with some of the deer and elk he brought home. He loved to go up to the Pacific Northwest to fish with his brothers and dad. We all can still hear his voice yelling “fish on”. I’m sure we all would be willing to be sea sick one more time to watch Adem reel a big one in.
In his early twenties and thirties, Adem was still one of the toughest kids on the block. This is where his best friend, Johnse “little Clint” Davis, and his dad, Clint “big Clint” Davis, took Adem to the fighting ring. Adem was well-known as someone who never backed down from a fight. Just like football, Adem excelled in karate. He was nationally ranked in his weight class. He loved the time he spent with Johnse and Clint in the gym training and traveling to fights. At a young age, Big Clint became a second father to Adem and helped Larry mold him into the strong, generous, and selfless man he became.
Adem loved to help and serve those around him. If you were in need, he was there. He was the first to show up and the last to leave, and never expected anything in return. He was dedicated and dependable to everyone. Adem never shied away from hard work or play. He was the jack of all trades. Many people depended on Adem for their living. He rewarded hard work and was always willing to give someone a chance.
Adem loved his work and his work family. He was lucky enough to work with his son, Tanner Mattinson, and nephew, Tyler Mattinson. Adem has been a big part of the telecommunication cellular industry in Utah. His work ethic and relationship building were second to none. Prior to the cellular jobs, Adem worked side-by-side with his dad in Cement Construction. Due to working together, in addition to being family, Adem and his father, Larry, have a very special bond. Adem loved working for his dad. The jobs they did together were some of his greatest memories.
Adem was a father of three amazing kids: Tanner, Preston, and Ryrie Mattinson. He loved his kids more than they know and was always sharing their successes with others. Adem was a husband to his soul mate and wife, Angie (MaCris) Mattinson. Adem adored his wife Angie and loved nothing more than spending time with her. They were inseparable. They both had a love of Utah Utes football, travel, and each other. Adem was one heck of a good cook also, with his specialty being grilling and dutch oven deep fried turkeys.
Adem is survived by his loving wife, Angie (MaCris) Mattinson. His kids Tanner, Preston, and Ryrie Mattinson. Parents Larry and Kathryn Mattinson. Brothers; Bret, Scott Bodie (Kim), Jodie (Aimie), and Shad Mattinson. Preceded in death by sister Stephanie Mattinson.
The family wishes to thank all those who loved and cared for Adem at the University of Utah Hospital. His staff are real-life heroes to the people they serve. The outpouring of love from those that knew and love him has only reiterated what we, and you, already knew about him. We will always remember our family glue, loving husband, loving father, selfless brother, and caring son. Adem is one of the best men most of us will ever know. We love you, Adem Andrew Mattinson.
