Algernon Baxter Funeral Service

Algernon Jackson Baxter was born to Dee (Choctaw tribe) and Shirley (Cayuga tribe) Baxter on November 15, 1992 in Provo, Utah. As the youngest of six children, he was doted upon by his older siblings and described as the most adorable, easygoing, and happy child. His siblings were his first friends, and they all agree that he was their favorite. He loved and honored his parents

During childhood, Algee could always be found outside playing in the backyard, riding his bike, jumping on the trampoline, building Legos, trading Pokémon cards, and playing any kind of sport. He was a naturally gifted athlete and excelled at anything he tried. His lifelong love for lacrosse started at an early age when his mother introduced him to the amazing sport. He was a trailblazer and mentor in introducing lacrosse to many neighborhood friends. His mission was to share his love of the game with others. As a midfielder/attack he achieved many accomplishments throughout his athletic career which included being named 1st Team All-State twice, 1st Team All-Conference, a Top 11 player at BYU Lacrosse Camp, and 2nd in state his junior year. The highlight of his lacrosse career was winning the Utah High School Division II Lacrosse Championship with his beloved teammates as a senior in 2011.

Algee was given his native name as an honor to the Creator; his Native American name is “Tvshka Homma” which means “Red Warrior” in Choctaw. He considered his teammates like brothers and they were some of his greatest friends. Algee played for a semester at Utah Valley University before injuring his shoulder and was grateful for the time spent there. Algee was known for his love of people. Throughout his life, everyone has described him as their best friend– and it’s true for every person. Algee would get to know each person as an individual, listened with care, and loved without guile. His greatest gift is his ability to love without judgment. While some only have a few friends in life, Algee was remarkable in the way that he could sustain connections with his many diverse groups of friends. He loved many and many loved him! He was generous and selfless. Algee routinely gave money to those in need he saw while traveling for work, and would sacrifice in order to serve those he loved. He was full of childlike wonder and he never lost that joy. He loved to be silly, quote movies, talk on the phone, splurge on food, and was always trying to make other people laugh. One of his favorite things was being the fun uncle to his nieces and nephews. He loved people the way the Savior Jesus Christ does.

For the past 4 years, he was living in Modesto, California and had been working towards building his own trucking company. He worked tirelessly, diligently, and gave everything he had towards his goals. While living in California he reconnected with a childhood friend, Hailey Allred, who became the love of his life. They enjoyed karaoke in the car, going to the movies, walks together, trips to the zoo, and spending time with family and friends.

Algee peacefully passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022 at 10:28 p.m. at the age of 29, surrounded by his beloved family and friends. As an organ donor,  his gifts are a beautiful expression of who he is. His heart was transplanted into a recipient and started beating at 2:12 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2022. His kind heart is still changing lives.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to Mapleton EMS and Utah Valley Hospital staff for their excellent care and love (shoutout to Nurse Kim for the Dr. Pepper; and Hannah, Sadie, and Megan). To his family and friends who came to see him at the hospital, there are no words to express what that meant to us and Algee. Thank you for loving him and letting him love you!

Algee is survived by his parents, Dee and Shirley Baxter; siblings: Dee Baxter, Cortney Westfall (Bucky), Nicole Bjarnson (Derek), Danielle Baxter, Lynzee Baxter; girlfriend, Hailey Allred; nieces and nephews, Kendrick Baxter-Finster, Krixton Willson, Cash Westfall, Brynlee Westfall, Boston Westfall, Cannon Westfall, Hazelyn Baxter, and Quinn Bjarnson; grandmother, Barbara Jones; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by Floyd Jackson Baxter (grandfather), Marie Betsey Baxter (grandmother), Franklin Kent Jones (grandfather), Chad Russell Curley (cousin), Steve Baxter (cousin), and Jordan Baxter (cousin).
