David Alexander Hyde March 7, 1943 - May 18, 2022

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather David Alexander Hyde passed away peacefully at the Payson Veterans home on May 18, 2022.  David was born March 7, 1943 to Virgil and Luella Hyde in San Luis Obispo, California, one of 5 children.  At a young age, Dave’s family settled in Waco, Nebraska where he attended and graduated from high school. During his younger years, Dave learned the value of hard work on the family farm, and also began a lifelong love of tinkering with anything mechanical.

After graduating high school, Dave joined the United States Navy, training as a Machinist Mate.  Dave served proudly for 6 years on the submarine USS Darter, earning the coveted Submarine Warfare Insignia, or “Dolphins”.  Dave proudly wore a hat with his Dolphins insignia until the day he died.

After his Navy service, Dave married and had two sons, Jim and Don.  Dave later divorced, and eventually remarried and adopted his wife’s two kids, Tracy and Brian.  Dave worked hard to provide for his growing family, often having to travel far from home to secure work.  During this difficult time, Dave again divorced and relocated to Utah after accepting a position with Intermountain Power Plant, where he enjoyed a successful career, retiring in 2006.

After 5 years alone in Utah, Dave was introduced to Christine Woodward by a co-worker.  After a short courtship, Dave and Christine were married on April 8, 1991 , and were later sealed in the Provo Temple.  With his marriage to Christine, Dave inherited a ready-made family of 6 kids with grandkids already running around.  Dave accepted all of the kids and grandkids as his own, and loved without limits.  There was never a time when Dave would turn down a request for help from any of his kids or grandkids.  From teaching kids to drive, to being the best sport at the countless Halloween parties, Dave was always there for anyone who needed him.  The grandkids will forever cherish the memories made with Dave, who always had a way of making them each feel special and loved.  Dave enjoyed riding his motorcycle and passed his love of riding on to many of his grandkids, who will honor Dave by escorting him to the cemetery on their motorcycles.  A fitting tribute to a wonderful grandpa!

Dave was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in April, 1991.  Dave felt inspired to do research on his own family, and complete the temple work for so many of his ancestors.  Dave took this work very seriously, and he loved being a catalyst for his ancestor’s eternal progression.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Charlie, and beloved wife Christine, who passed just 4 short months ago.  He is survived by brothers Mike and James, and his sister Mary.  He is also survived by his 6 sons and 4 daughters, and 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork from 6 to 8 PM.  Graveside services will be held at Springville Evergreen Cemetery on Thursday, May 26, 2022 at 11 AM, with Military Rites performed by the American Legion Post of Spanish Fork, of which Dave was a Life Member.

The family is forever grateful for the wonderful care provided by the staff of the Payson Veterans Home, and the hospice nurses and assistants who treated Dave with such kindness and respect.
