Thomas Elwin Mower July 15, 1942 - August 3, 2020

A beloved mentor, amazing father, fun-loving grandfather, gregarious great grandfather, good friend, and network marketing legend, Tom Mower Senior, passed away suddenly August 2, 2020 doing what he loved most—working to help people live a longer, healthier, and happier life.

Thomas Elwin Mower was born on July 15th, 1942 at the LDS hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Tom grew up playing sports and particularly loved basketball and softball. After graduation from Bountiful High School in 1960, he attended the University of Utah and excelled on the boxing team going undefeated. He never backed down from a fight and was as tough as nails.

Tom was a natural-born salesman, winning several awards as he developed a love of the chase. He was a master storyteller and inspired millions via TV, radio, the Internet, and from stage in jam-packed arenas around the world. He was a consummate entrepreneur, building at one point the 5th-largest network marketing company in the world, employing over 1,200 people. Some of his favorite employees, however, were his family members with which he spent countless hours mentoring and sharing in their successes.

Tom was happiest spending time with family in the outdoors and at his cabin. He was an expert sportsman and loved hunting and fishing with his kids, leading to a massive trophy room. He endeared himself to the sportsman community by donating well over $1 million dollars to help start the Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife. His generosity continued over the course of his lifetime and he gave away millions of dollars to various philanthropic organizations focusing on abandoned children, wildlife, and environmental needs.

He was fond of telling his many friends, “We’re here to live life to the fullest,” and indeed, he did. He loved people and nothing could tear him away from his passion and deep desire to help others. Through his many successful endeavors and extensive travels, he touched the lives of millions of people the world over, even holding council with the Dalai Lama.

“If you’re not having fun, you’re doing it wrong,” Tom would say. The world became a lot less fun without you Tom.

Tom is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Moreland and mother, Maurine Blackham Mower. He credits his mother and grandmother, Ada Gunderson Blackham with whom he was particularly close for his confidence and success in life, as well as his son Brett W. Mower and his sisters Lori (Mower) Dominy and Francene (Mower) Whitecar.

He is survived by his children, Thomas W. Mower (Kathie), Barry Steed (stepson), Leisel Mower, Darick E. Mower (Patti), Jim Jared “J.J.” Mower, and Tamara Mower. He was not your typical grandpa and his 21 grandchildren will dearly miss the irreverent and crazy experiences they all had with him. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren (who had him wrapped around their little fingers with their love and hugs), as well as his brothers, Richard Mower, Jerry Mower, and John Mower.

Viewings will be held Sunday, August 9th from 6pm to 8pm and again Monday, August 10th at from 10am to 10:45am at Walker Funeral Home in Spanish Fork. If you plan to attend, please bring a mask, and practice social distancing.

    I was in shock after I heard the news as I’ve been a distributor with both companies starting with neways and with sisel, I continue to buy his products as they are top-notch and I love the age pill. You really will be missed by so many lives you touched and today is a sad day. When I heard the news I felt like I had been punched in the gut and I still hurt. God bless you and your family as you rest in peace

    I am deeply sorry for your loss and would like to extend my sincere condolences to the Mower family. I have fond memories of Mr. Tom Mower and his team when I (along with other Filipino Sisel advocates) visited and spent a few days of training at the Sisel headquarters in Utah a few years ago. I remember his hospitality, generosity, deep scientific knowledge of health and aging, and his fun and joyful spirit.

    A great spiritual and down to earth being who made an enormous contribution to the betterment of all of humanity around the world and his own dear family. He will be missed, especially by we Australians with whom he also had a special relationship. He travelled here about 60 times and lived here for about 6 months at one stage. It was a great shock to hear of his passing and the repeating in my mind of “this cannot be” and associated incredulities.

    May he be born again soon to bless us all with more of his skills and humour.

    In view of we being spiritual beings having a human experience, there is a great couple of supportive verses re this in the Bhagavad Gita Ch 2 verses 12-13 where Krishna said to Arjuna on the battlefield near Delhi, India about 5000 years ago –

    “There never was a time when I was not, nor you nor these rulers of men.
    Nor will there ever be a time when all of us shall cease to be.
    As the dweller in this body passes into childhood, youth and age,
    So also does he pass into another body.
    This does not bewilder the wise.”

    Also Ch 2 verses 22 – 25 may support –

    “As a man casting off worn-out garments takes other new ones,
    So the dweller in the body casting off worn-out bodies
    Takes others that are new.

    Weapons cannot cleave him, nor fire burn him;
    Water cannot wet him nor wind dry him away.

    He is uncleavable; he cannot be burned;
    He cannot be wetted, nor yet can he be dried.
    He is eternal, all-pervading, stable, immovable, ever the same.

    He is declared to be unmanifest, unthinkable, unchangeable;
    Therefore knowing him as such you should not grieve”

    – Krishna to Arjuna Bhagavad Gita

    With best wishes to all the Mower family at this time, and to all his other well-wishers.

    All the best, cheers and enjoy.

    Michael

    Tom was good to me. As a young man who never had a father figure, one time I got in my car and drove to beaches of California. I skipped work etc. i was going thru a challenging personal matter.. I accepted the fact that I’d lose my job working for Tom at Neways. Even though he called me several times, in shame, I refused to answer…on his final call, he chose to leave a voice message. I resisted to listen to it believing it would be my firing. Instead, it was the most compassionate, fatherly, forgiving message it was a side of him most don’t see. It said “ come back home to us, whatever it is, we will work thru it .. come home” .. it was based on that kind of compassion and acceptance that I got back in my car and drove home. Reported back to work … he would tell me that I was his protégé, .. Rest In Peace Tom, peace that you so deserve .

    My wife became a dedicated member of the Neways family and eventually dragged me reluctantly along to one of the conventions that were held in Adelaide South Australia. I met Tom and was immediately impressed with his knowledge of the products that he was promoting. A number of years later my wife and I were in Brisbane and decided to attend the Neways convention. During the interval I met Tom, he asked me if I was enjoying the event, he then said to me “you are from Adelaide aren’t you, what are you doing here”. I was amazed that he remembered me and where I came from, but then, that was the sort of man he was.
    The world is a sadder place without him and I am proud to have met him.
