Martha Ivy Nelson Buckwalter January 30, 1941 - February 13, 2020

On February 13 2020 our loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, was called home, with her family at her beside. At this time Martha was staying at the Parkway Care Center in Payson Utah. Martha was born January 30 1941, in Provo Utah on the East Bench, to Farrell Nelson and Ivadell Nelson. She graduated from Orem High school. Martha married the love of her life Lee Edwin Buckwalter on March 16th 1957 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Later they were sealed in the Provo Temple on Oct. 26th 1985. They were blessed with 7 daughters and one son. Her family brought her much joy. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Martha was very active in children, grand children, and great grand children lives. From outdoor activities, camping, fishing, and farming. To church activities, FFA, sports, 4H, and school activities. Once she volunteered to be a fortune teller at the Halloween carnival, little did she know it would not be a one time thing?

Mom loved baking. There was no such thing in the house as store bought items such as bread, cookies, cake or pies. Canning was a big time summer event.

Martha along with Lee became very active in the EMS program in Payson. From education to responding to ambulance calls, they loved helping people in need.

Martha and Lee were involved in the car club. They volunteered for many activities in the community. Martha’s favorite activity that the car club did.  Was the sub for Santa drive. They would be up for long hours making wooden toys, and cloth baby dolls.

Martha worked at the Rancho Care Center.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She will be missed very much. Family and friends never went home without a good laugh. At the end when she became bed ridden from a broken leg. Martha would still ask is there anything I can do for you? She was always thinking of others.

Martha is survived by seven children. Cindy (Mark) Sawyer of St. George, Ut. Kathy (Cotton) Holland of Dequeen, Ark. Vickie (Tom) Walk of Herriman, Ut. Jamie Clark of Desert Springs, Arizona. Lee (Myndi) Buckwalter of Springville, Utah. Heidi (Russell) Peterson of Spring Creek Nev.  Penny (Larry) Metcalf of Montrose, Co. Son in Law Dean Bowers of Payson, Utah. Sister Donna Woodward of American Fork, Utah. Also 28 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Edwin Buckwalter, daughter Marcy Bowers, grandson Christopher Buckwalter, son in law Cory Clark, parents Farrell and Ivadell Nelson, sisters LaJean Manning and Julia Olsen, and her brother John Nelson.
